Sir George Newnes

29/9/2012. Lynton - Devon - UK

Sir George Newnes was born in Matlock, Derbyshire in 1859 but spent a lot of his life in Lynton before dying in 1910 aged a mere 51.
He was a benefactor of Lynton giving the town it's Town Hall, built the cliff railway and was largely responsible for the opening of the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway amongst others.
